PMDL were engaged by ATCO to provide the planning and concept design to support their Design and Construction Tender for the Northern Hospital carpark in Epping, Melbourne.
The design was a response to a brief for a 6 storey, 1187 car space with related facilities. Finding opportunity within the constraints of the site to maximise efficiency delivered an additional 50 carparking places. Our design took inspiration from the local areas indigenous and geological significance as we developed 4 narratives; “Edgars Creek” – meandering pattern, “Waterfall” – Silurian Sandstone rock pattern, “Cliff Escarpment” – Melbourne geology chevron pattern, “River Red & Yellow Gum Eucalyptus Trees” – bark patterns. These concepts would be integrated and expressed on the buildings alternating angled perforated facades to reflect the local environment and culture.
